For the ego to survive, it must make time -- past and future -- more important than the present moment.

Even my desire to become free or enlightened is just another craving for fulfillment or completion in the future. So don't seek to become free or desire or "achieve" enlightenment. Become present.
The power of now can only be realized now. It requires no time and effort. Effort means you're trying hard to get somewhere, and so you are not present, welcoming this moment as it is.
When you are present, you can allow the mind to be as it is without getting entangled in it. The mind itself is a wonderful tool. Dysfunction sets in when you seek your self in it and mistake it for who you are.
You can be very much aware that when you are stressed, it always is a sign you have lost the present moment. So, you can choose to re-enter the present moment.
When you surrender to what is and so become fully present, the past ceases to have any power. You do not need it anymore. Presence is the key. Now is the key.

The primary cause of unhappiness is never the situation, but you thoughts about it. Be aware of the thoughts you are thinking.

The pas has no power to stop you from being present now. Only your grievance about the past can do that.
Instead of making up stories, stay with the facts. For example, "I am ruined" is a story. It limits you and prevents you from taking effective action. "I have 50 cents left in my bank account" is a fact.

The word enlightenment conjures up the idea of some superhuman accomplishment, and the ego likes to keep it that way, but it is simply your natural state of felt oneness with Being.
Sometimes surrender means giving up trying to understand and becoming comfortable with not knowing.
Only the truth of who you are, if realized, will set you free.
Going with the flow" is for some people an excuse for not taking action and it refers usually to one's life situation.
You are not separate from the whole. You are one with the sun, the earth, the air. You don't have a life. You are life.
Resistance is weakness and fear masquerading as strength. What the ego sees as weakness is your Being in its purity, innocence, and power. What it sees as strength is weakness.
The dog is still in the natural state. And you can easily see that, because you have problems and your dog doesn't. And while your happy moments may be rare, your dog celebrates life continuously.
How do you let go of attachment to things? Don't even try. It's impossible. Attachment to things drops away by itself when you no longer seek to find yourself in them.
How' is always more important that ‘what.' See if you can give much more attention to the doing than to the result that you want to achieve through it.
If her past were your past, her pain your pain, her level of consciousness your level of consciousness, you would think and act exactly as she does. With this realization comes forgiveness, compassion and peace.
So the single most vital step on your journey towards enlightenment is this: learn to disidentify from your mind.
Negative states of mind, such as anger, resentment, fear, envy, and jealousy, are products of the ego.
True listening is another way of bringing stillness into the relationship. When you truly listen to someone, the dimension of stillness arises and becomes an essential part of the relationship.

We get lost in doing, thinking, remembering, anticipating -- lost in a maze of complexity and a world of problems. Nature can show us the way home, the way out of the prison of our own minds.
If people believe the world is here to satisfy them, whenever they begin to encounter their limitations, they become unhappy.
If the only teacher you have is your suffering, you will need a substantial dose of it for the ego to dissolve. But if the power of spiritual teaching is already at work, then a minor event can dissolve the ego.
When the basis for your actions is inner alignment with the present moment, your actions become empowered by the intelligence of life itself.
It is not uncommon for people to spend their whole life waiting to start living.
You are the knowing, not the condition that is known.
The power is in you. The answer is in you. And you are the answer to all your searches: you are the goal. You are the answer. It's never outside.
Stress is a form of suffering. Look at your body and see what stress does to the body and its functions -- what it does to the heart, the circulation, the immune system, the digestive function, the liver.
Some changes look negative on the surface but you will soon realize that space is being created in your life for something new to emerge.
If I find here and Now unacceptable, I have three choices:
1-Totally accept it.
2- Change it.
3-Remove myself from the situation.

The Truth is inseparable from who you are. Yes, you are the Truth. If you look for it elsewhere, you will be deceived every time.
Being must be 'felt' it can not be 'thought.
Every practice at some point will become a hindrance. No practice can ever take you there, to freedom, to liberation. That's important to realize.
Welcome to the present moment. Here. Now. The only moment there ever is.
In certain extreme cases, medication may be necessary. But it is given far too often, too easily, and too readily. Millions of children already are on tranquilizers, for example, and that is absurd.
Pain can only feed on pain. Pain cannot feed on joy. It finds it quite indigestible.
Thinking without awareness is the main dilemma of human existence.
Die to the past every moment. You don't need it. Only refer to it when it is absolutely relevant to the present. Feel the power of this moment and the fullness of Being. Feel your presence.
The stream of thinking has enormous momentum that can easily drag you along with it. Every thought pretends that it matters so much.
